Save Energy and Money. Conserve the Environment. Live a Healthier Life.

Make a change for the better —living a healthy life and protecting the environment starts at home.

Living in an Orlando Green Home is only common sense—save money, be comfortable, live healthier and protect the environment—what’s not to like about that? It is not a lifestyle sacrifice but rather a different way of thinking. It’s about rising to a higher quality of living for you and your family. Green living is a rapidly growing trend of our society, including living in an eco-friendly or green home.

Simple and affordable steps can bring your home to a greener environment that will attract more buyers. This will also be the way you’d want to live when purchasing your next home.

Did you know that: indoor air is typically between 2-5 times more contaminated than outdoor air? In some cases, indoor air can be 100 times more contaminated. Even new homes can be 10 times more polluted than outdoor air.

A well-insulated, well-sealed and ventilated home with efficient windows, appliances and lighting, solar design, water management and landscaping are just the basics on living in a green home. All energy efficiency measures are vital to protecting our environment, and provide a cost effective and prudent investment to reduce exposure to future energy cost increases.

Did you know that: your green home for sale, or you as a buyer, could qualify for an Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM) or an Energy Improvement Mortgage (EIM)? Green financing offers an opportunity to derive more purchasing power.

What is Green Real Estate?

Simply put, green real estate is any real property that embraces what is environmentally friendly, conserving energy, water and air quality. One that provides sustainable living–maintaining at a steady level without exhausting natural resources or causing ecological damage.

Green construction is one of the fastest growing segments of the real estate industry. Not long ago green building was perceived as cost prohibited, but as time goes by, it has become more affordable and cost effective. Especially when spending an extra $2000 during construction can turn into thousands in savings on the buyer’s utility bills in the years to come.

Many things determine how green a home is. It is not just the appliances, water and air systems, it also includes the insulation, paint, flooring, windows, roof, and every single part of the home, including the landscaping. Additionally, much attention is given to minimizing waste during construction and the use of recyclable materials.

New construction can provide the most green benefits for obvious reasons. It is also easier to get a green certification or Energy Star rating to new homes and buildings (read the blog post: Can an already built home receive an energy star rating?). However, don’t let this discourage you in any way if you have an existing home. Anyone can upgrade or “upgreen” their home or building. It can be as simple as tinting the windows, sealing the ducts and home, replacing light bulbs and appliances, adding solar panels and adding insulation to the attic. If you will be renovating your home, then take advantage of the opportunity to consider more involved steps, such as, replacing single pane windows to double pane, using reflective shingles, and a myriad of other options available. Please consult with a professional that specializes in green construction. To determine how green is your home hire a professional energy rater.
